Wild Spring Meadows at a Seattle Canlis Wedding

Being a part of Kim and Faraz’s Canlis wedding in Seattle was such a joy, and getting the opportunity to craft such beautiful, organic displays like theirs is something I will never stop being grateful for!

Kim + Faraz’s Spring Wedding at Canlis
Wild, untamed romance at a high-end Seattle wedding venue
If you’ve been with me for a while, you may recognize my motto: a little untamed and always divine. And let me tell you, Kim and Faraz’s wedding florals felt like the complete embodiment of that phrase in all ways. Natural, wild, and seasonal designs just made sense inside of one of Seattle’s most luxurious, high-end wedding & event venues, elevating a space that already provided such a gorgeous backdrop on its own. Canlis is a dream canvas to work on as a florist, featuring dark interiors, an abundance of natural light, spectacular views of Seattle & the surrounding mountains, and gorgeous modern architecture—utter perfection for an intimate evening gathering such as this.
Flowers that do more than decorate

Say less. Kim and Faraz’s celebration gave me a lovely opportunity to play around with experiential florals that did so much more than just decorate a space. Instead, they created an experience; spring blooms dancing in the light, just doing their thing and catching the eye of every guest who walked by. Their arrangements consisted of fritillaria persica, lilac, tulip “wyndham” (my favorite this year), bleeding heart, butterfly ranunculus, and the year’s first sweet peas—each bloom intentionally picked and designed to evoke that wild, romantic feeling, like nature just happened to grow that way inside the venue. Whether it’s a lush ceremony arch, an overgrown tablescape, or a whimsical bud vase moment, my goal is always to design with feeling and seasonality in mind.
With this Asian fusion wedding celebrating a multicultural marriage, I also decided to focus on incorporating Ikebana-style arrangements. If you’re unfamiliar with Ikebana (which, let’s be honest, you probably are if you don’t happen to be a professional florist), it’s the Japanese art of arranging flowers in a way that allows you to deeply connect with and appreciate nature. With roots tying back to both Buddhism and ancient Japan, Ikebana places emphasis on simplicity, respect for nature, and understated elegance (shoutout to Architectural Digest for that fabulous description)—all of which are precisely what I love to express in my floristry.
Spring meadows after dark
Although every moment of this day was breathtaking, my photos might just be the ones taken after dark, a time when florals don’t typically play as much of a role in a wedding day—but that was the beauty of this Canlis celebration. Against the nighttime lights of Seattle in the background and the dark skies, the florals burst with life and light, adding a touch of vibrancy to the moody ambience of their evening gathering. The way that the sprawling greenery popped alongside the pale pinks, deep purples, and delicate shades of cream beneath the glistening chandeliers, and the deep tones of Canlis at night. . . unreal. Who says that lush, spring wildflower meadows can only be enjoyed during the daytime?

Canlis has become such an esteemed venue in the world of high-end Seattle weddings, known for its exquisite fine-dining experience, picturesque views of Lake Union and the Cascades, and the warm, intimate atmosphere it fosters. Boasting a gorgeous 1,500 square-foot penthouse overlooking the lake, Canlis can accommodate up to 50 guests for a seated dinner and wedding ceremony, or up to 28 if you opt for a long, oval table rather than the traditional rounds. I always say that the bigger the table, the more space you have for flowers—super subtle hint to keep that in mind as you plan ;)
Canlis wedding packages in the Penthouse vary depending on the size and layout of your celebration, as well as the season; food and beverage minimums begin at $5000 for a summer weekend wedding, with additional room, dinner, and ceremony fees.
